WHAT MUST I DO WHEN I AM A PARENT? THE IDEAL CHRISTIAN PARENT
Many fathers and mothers ask this question: CAN I HAVE GREAT MEN AND WOMEN FROM MY FAMILY? IS IT NOT TOO LATE FOR MY WAYWARD CHILD?
The answer is: Yes, you can. It is not late at all. With God all things are possible. Just follow God’s principles of parenting.
“GREAT MEN AND WOMEN ARE MADE FROM HOMES; CRIMINALS ARE MADE FROM HOMES. WHOM ARE YOU PRODUCING FROM YOUR HOME?”
Your child is a heritage of the Lord. He/she is a property of the Lord entrusted to you. See Psalm 127:3; Proverbs 17:6; Proverbs 29:15. If you will let God, He will bless their future.
KEY PRINCIPLES TO BE PRACTICED DAILY BY EVERY PARENT:
1. OBEDIENCE TO GOD: As the head of the home, it is your responsibility to see to it that your family does what God says they are to do. Your responsibility is not to see that your family does what you say they are to do, but to be an example id doing what God says.
George Herbert said: “One father or mother is much better than a hundred schoolmasters.” Lead your family in obedience to God.
2. LEAD THE FAMILY TO GOD: It is your responsibility as head of the family to lead by teaching, and by example. If your children are not taking after you then you are not leading. See Proverbs 22:6.
3. THREE THINGS TO BE TO YOUR FAMILY: As the head of your family, you should be three things to your family:
A PROTECTOR: Protect your family Physically (1 Tim. 3:4); Emotionally (11 Samuel 12:6); Spiritually (1 Samuel 3:13).
A PROVIDER: Provide stability, physical needs (2 Cor. 12:14), shelter, financial needs, and independence.
A PRIEST: Be a Pray-er; Obedient to God, consistent, and teach. Be sure the family altar burns each morning and evening. Present your family to God each day.
BUILD POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP: As head of the family, you should practice positive relationships among the family members. Do not allow any rift between family members to continue for more than a day. Reconciliation must be effective in the home. Show forgiveness, mercy, kindness, patience, and humility in all your relationships.
May God bless you as you parent citizens of Heaven. Amen.
